  • Q. What can I first expect?

    A.  We understand how hard quitting can be and what you are facing. We’ve helped many others quit through our free programs. 

     

    First you register which is very easy and takes about 10 minutes. Just call the toll-free Florida Quitline at 1-877-U-CAN-NOW, that’s 1-877-822-6669, to speak with a registration agent who will ask you a few simple questions like your age and how much you smoke or chew. After you register, you have the option of talking to a trained and certified Quit Coach or setting up a time for a Quit Coach to call you back if you’re short on time. Your first call with a Quit Coach will last about 25 minutes. He or she will help you set a quit date, create a personalized quit plan, and determine if you should use nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), like the patch and/ or nicotine gum, which will be sent to you free of charge.

  • Q. How old do you have to be to call the Florida Quitline?

    A. Floridians age 11 or older can call the Florida Quitline at 1-877-U-CAN-NOW (1.877.822.6669) for free counseling. To qualify for free nicotine replacement therapy, you must be 18 or older.

  • Q. Is it only for cigarette smokers?

    A. Tobacco Free Florida can help you quit any kind of tobacco addiction including cigarettes, cigars, bidis, chew tobacco, spit tobacco, snuff, snus, dissolvable tobacco, hookah, and more.

    A. Qualifying for free NRT has nothing to do with health insurance. First and foremost, you must be 18 or older and live in Florida. Your Quit Coach will ask you about eight to 10 questions to determine if NRT is medically appropriate for you. It’s that easy and best of all, we’ll send it to you free of charge.

  • Q. Is counseling only available in English?

    A. Through the Florida Quitline, quit counseling is available in English and Spanish; and translation services are available for all other languages. TDD service is available for the hearing-impaired.

  • Q. What if you are not a Floridian?

    A. If you don’t currently live in Florida, you can call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-877-448-7848).

    A.  Floridians age 13 or older can enroll at www.quitnow.net/florida. To qualify for free nicotine replacement therapy, you must be 18 or older.

    A. Yes. Simply enroll in Web Coach® at www.quitnow.net/florida.

  • Q. When can I sign up?

In Person – AHEC:

  • Q. What can I first expect?

    A.  We understand how hard quitting can be and what you are facing. Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) across the state have helped many others quit. These free classes provide a comfortable and friendly environment where you can quit with others  who are going through the same experience. A tobacco cessation specialist will start by helping you develop a quit plan that’s right for you, guiding you through the quit process, and providing  free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), like the patch and/or nicotine gum. There are currently two programs available through AHEC:

    • Quit Smoking Now classes meet once a week for six weeks. Participants offer each other support as they go through the quit process.

    • Tools to Quit is a 2-hour program, either one full session or two separate sessions, where you learn to develop a quit plan that’s right for you.

     

  • Q. How old do you have to be to register with AHEC?

    A. Most participants in AHEC cessation classes are over the age of 18.

  • Q. Is it only for cigarette smokers?

    A. At this time, Spanish cessation classes are limited and available in a few counties.
